Every score below comes from the same dust, clumping, odor, tracking and value tests we run on every brand, updated through Nov 24, 2025.

The one thing buyers get wrong about Feline Pine is the scooping. These are pine pellets. They do not clump. Urine breaks the pellets down into damp sawdust that falls to the bottom of the box, so you sift the sawdust out and leave the whole pellets behind. Drop Feline Pine into an ordinary box with a slotted scoop and you will hate it inside a week.

Set it up the way it is meant to work and the numbers are good. We ran Feline Pine through the same five tests as every other bag here, across three cats in two homes, and it scored 8.0 out of 10 overall.

Two readings carry the brand. Dust weighed 0.08mg per pour, a 9.3 out of 10. And it is cheap to live with: $19.99 buys 40 lbs, which is $0.50 a pound and $0.31 a day, the second-lowest daily cost of the 17 litters we have priced. Only the cheapest clay beats it, and that clay throws seven times the dust.

5 Things to Know Before You Buy Feline Pine

  1. 1.You need a sifting box, not a normal one. Pine pellets break into sawdust instead of clumping, and a sifting tray is what separates the used sawdust from the clean pellets. Our clumping score of 2.5 out of 10 is the drop test refusing to apply, not a failure.
  2. 2.Dust measured 0.08mg per pour, a 9.3 out of 10. Pellets are too heavy to hang in the air, which is why pine is a standard answer for a home where someone reacts to litter dust.
  3. 3.It is the cheapest natural litter we have priced. $19.99 for 40 lbs works out to $0.31 a day, against $0.54 for walnut and $0.72 for soft pine granules.
  4. 4.Pellets stay in the box. Tracking scored 8.8 out of 10, because a pellet is too big and too heavy to ride out on a paw the way clay dust does.
  5. 5.Odor is the trade. It scored 7.9 out of 10, and a bag runs about 6 weeks for one cat or 3.5 weeks in a multi-cat home. Sift the sawdust daily or the pine smell stops covering for you.

Feline Pine FAQ

Does Feline Pine clump?

No. The pellets absorb urine and crumble into sawdust that drops through a sifting tray. Solids get scooped out whole. If you want a litter you scoop in one piece, this is the wrong bag and a walnut or corn litter will suit you better.

Do I have to buy a special litter box?

You need a sifting box or a two-tray setup, and they are inexpensive. Without one you are scooping wet sawdust out of a solid pan by hand, which is the single most common reason people give up on pine.

Is Feline Pine cheaper than clay?

Almost. At $0.31 a day it sits just above the cheapest clay we priced at $0.30 a day. The difference between them is not money, it is the air. We weighed 0.08mg per pour here against 0.58mg from that clay.
