Pour low and slow
Most of the dust in a room arrives in the ten seconds you spend emptying a bag. Hold the bag inside the box, near the bottom, and tip rather than shake.
We cannot tell you what sets off your asthma. Your doctor can. What we can tell you is which bags throw dust into the room and which barely do, because we weighed the airborne particulates during a standard pour on every litter we bought. The gap runs from 0.00mg to 0.58mg.
One figure, one test: milligrams of airborne particulate captured while the bag is poured into the box. It is a measure of the moment that matters most, because that is when the air in the room changes.

Not yet weighed, so we make no dust claim about them: PrettyLitter. Anywhere on this site those litters show not measured rather than a guess.
A repeatable comparison between bags, taken the same way every time, on litter we bought ourselves. Use it to rank one bag against another.
Not an exposure limit, not a health rating, and not advice about your lungs. Two people in the same room with the same litter can have completely different days.
Changing the bag helps. Changing how you handle it helps on the bag you already own.
Most of the dust in a room arrives in the ten seconds you spend emptying a bag. Hold the bag inside the box, near the bottom, and tip rather than shake.
Refill outdoors, in a garage, or in a bathroom with the fan running. Then carry the filled box back. The airborne cloud stays where you made it.
Digging through a bed that was poured a minute ago lifts the fines straight back up. Give it a few minutes.
A cheap dust mask for the two minutes a refill takes is a small ask, and it is the only part of the job where the air is loaded.
If your breathing changed when a cat or a litter box arrived, that is a medical question and it deserves a medical answer. Bring the litter name with you. Swapping to a low-dust bag is a sensible thing to try, and it is not a substitute for finding out what is actually going on.
Dust figures are our own weighings, taken during a standard pour on litter we purchased. This page offers no medical advice and makes no health claim about any product.
