Corn does the absorbing here, and cassava, a root vegetable starch, does the binding. That second ingredient is what separates this bag from a plain corn litter.
Corn alone clumps but tends to crumble. Cassava is the binder, like adding egg to breadcrumbs. That is the maker's claim, and our clumps did lift whole. We have not put a drop-test number on it.

What is cassava and why is it in cat litter?
Cassava (also called yuca or manioc) is a root vegetable native to South America. Sustainably Yours blends cassava starch with corn, and the maker says the starch binds the clumps and ferments less than corn alone. We have not run a drop test on it, so we cannot put a number on the binding. What we can say is that the litter never went sour on us.
Is Sustainably Yours flushable?
The maker sells Sustainably Yours as flushable and septic-safe, and the clumps we flushed broke up in the bowl. We ran no dissolution test of our own, so we have no number for it. As with any flushable litter, check local rules and never flush the whole box at once, only scooped clumps.
Why is the litter white?
The bright white color is deliberate, for health monitoring. Unlike tan or gray litters that hide discoloration, white litter makes it easy to spot blood in urine, changes in urine concentration, and unusual colors that can point to health issues.
