Ökocat Cat Litter Reviews
We tested 1 Ökocat product, priced from $19.99. Ökocat Paper Pellet scored highest at 8.2/10 (tested Nov 6, 2025), built for post-surgery or severe dust sensitivity.

Every score below comes from the same dust, clumping, odor, tracking and value tests we run on every brand, updated through Nov 10, 2025.
Ökocat gets bought as an everyday litter and it is not one. The bag we tested, Ökocat Paper Pellet, does not clump at all. What it does is the thing no other litter on our bench managed: it weighed 0.00mg of airborne dust at the pour. That is the only zero reading we have recorded, and it is why this litter belongs in a house with a cat recovering from surgery, a declawed cat, or a person whose chest tightens near a litter box.
Ökocat is a German brand and it sells two families, paper pellets and a wood litter. We have tested the paper pellets only, across three cats in two homes. That bag scored 8.2 out of 10 overall.
Buy it for the dust reading and the soft pellet underfoot. Do not buy it expecting to scoop clumps: it scored 2.1 out of 10 on clumping because the drop test has nothing to grip. A bag runs $19.99 for 20 lbs, or $0.52 a day, and lasts about 3.5 weeks for one cat.
5 Things to Know Before You Buy Ökocat
- 1.The dust reading is the whole story. 0.00mg per pour, a 10 out of 10, the only zero we have weighed. The lowest clay reading on our bench was 0.03mg and the highest was 0.58mg.
- 2.It does not clump. You scoop solids out whole and change the box more often instead. The 2.1 out of 10 clumping score is that fact, not a defect.
- 3.Paper pellets are soft on a paw, which is why this bag keeps coming up for cats healing from surgery or living without claws.
- 4.Ökocat sells a wood litter alongside the paper pellets. We have only measured the paper pellets, so nothing on this page speaks for the wood bags.
- 5.It empties fast. About 3.5 weeks for one cat, about 2 weeks with several, at $19.99 for 20 lbs. That is $0.52 a day for a litter you will be changing whole.

Ökocat FAQ
Is Ökocat good for a cat recovering from surgery?
It is the bag we would reach for. Zero measured dust and a soft pellet mean nothing fine is drifting near a fresh incision. Ask your vet first, because the box setup after surgery is their call, not ours.
Why does Ökocat score so low on clumping?
Because it is not a clumping litter. Our clumping score comes from dropping formed clumps three feet and counting what survives, and a non-clumping pellet has nothing to drop. Read the 2.1 as "not applicable" rather than "bad".
Is Ökocat expensive?
It is mid-pack at $0.52 a day. The catch is not the price per bag, it is how often you replace the whole box. A clumping litter lets you scoop and top up; this one you empty.
